As an artist-run online platform dedicated to supporting arts and culture in Central Asia, we believe that it is crucial to highlight and amplify Central Asian voices in a time of significant outside interest in the region's cultural scene.
Central Asia has always been a melting pot of cultures, languages, and religions. The region's rich history and diverse cultural heritage have long been a source of fascination for outsiders. However, the recent migration of Russians to Central Asia has added another layer of complexity to the region's cultural landscape. While these changes are undoubtedly transformative, it is important to listen to the voices of Central Asians who are at the center of these cultural processes.
In this issue, we will bring together a diverse range of perspectives from across Central Asia. Through a series of essays, interviews, and creative pieces, we explore how our individual experiences shape our understanding of our culture, identity, and place in the world. We study the complex history of Central Asia, examining how it has been shaped by colonialism, war, and migration. We also explore the region's contemporary cultural scene, examining the works of artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers who are pushing the boundaries of what it means to be Central Asian in the 21st century.
This issue — is the idea that our own perspective is essential to understanding and engaging with our culture. Through our experiences, we bring something new and valuable to the table. Whether we are studying our cultural heritage, questioning the status quo, or reimagining our future, it is our own perspective that gives us the power to shape our culture and our place in the world.
We hope that this issue will be a starting point for a broader conversation about the importance of Central Asian voices in our cultural discourse. By sharing our stories, our struggles, and our triumphs, we can build a stronger and more inclusive cultural scene in Central Asia and beyond.
